STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR TRANSFORMER SERVICING (SOP)

A power transformer is most costly and essential equipment of an electrical transformer. So for getting high performance and long functional life of the transformer, it is desired to perform various maintenance activities. Not only that, a power transformer also requires various maintenance actions including measurement and testing of different parameters of the transformer.

1        To have proper consistency and instructions / procedures in place for Transformer.

1.                                          PURPOSE:
1.1                   To describe a procedure for the maintenance of Transformer Oil servicing
                                                           
2.                                          SCOPE:
2.1                   This procedure is applicable for the maintenance of all the Transformers at -------(Location)

 Head
To ensure adequate facilities, system and personnel are available to carry out this process
Head of the Department
To ensure that procedures are in place to carry out requirement of the process. To ensure adequate drawings / manuals, materials / spares & labors’ are available to carry out this process
Supervisor/Engineer
Responsible for supervising / carrying out the preventive maintenance check sheet / flow chart / sequential steps to ensure proper completion of the task. Ensure that the Safety Work Permit System is followed & monitored closely.
Contractor / Associate
Ensure to follow the work permit system along with conducting the daily tool box talks with the team and ensure proper usage of PPE. Responsible for carrying out the preventive maintenance work. Also, timely follow the instructions as given by the Supervisor in charge pertaining to the work.
6.      PROCEDURE:
6.1  Process Overview:

6.1.1                                The Transformer is main part of Electrical substation.

6.1.2                                There are total of 2 Transformers’ at Substation . They are of different capacities based on the rating if the equipment’s connected to the circuit.

6.1        Sequence:

·         Take Transformer oil sample and check BDV value through external agency.
  • The BDV Value is below 55KV, Take the quotation from external agency for Transformer Oil servicing.
  • Issue the work order to external agency for Transformer Oil servicing.
  • Planned date and time inform to external agency.
  • Arrange Power supply for Transformer Oil service filter Unit
  • Switch off  Transformer incomer supply from VCB Panel
  • Take the sample oil and check the BDV value before servicing
  • Start the Oil filtration
  • After Filtration check and confirm the BDV Value of Transformer is above 55 KV
  • Check the Oil level in Transformer, Fill the new Oil if Required
  • After Oil filtration Switch ON the transformer, ensure the temperature is low
  • After servicing collect the Bill and prepare Work completion note and given to accounts for Payment
  • Collect the Transformer service report
  • Notice the BDV value and Due date in near Transformer
  • This process once in a year
6.3.1        All the activities are done manually.
7.            DOCUMENTATION
7.1              Keep the service report at Substation and Notice the BDV value and Due date in near Transformer
8.                  PPE:
8.1              Electrical Hand gloves, Safety shoes, Barricading (by masking tape) of the job, Fire extinguishers (CO2 Type / Sand buckets)
9.                  Tools/ equipment’s required:
9.1              Insulated Spanner, Tester, Screw Driver,
10.              IMPACT IN CASE OF DEVIATION:
10.1          Damage to equipment
10.2          Personnel safety
11.              CORRECTIVE ACTION IN CASE OF DEVIATION:
11.1     Training and awareness should be given to the staff handling.
